womyn's day... a day to remember the sisters who have fought to better womyn's lives - to reflect on gains won - to weep for the victims of violence - to rage at injustices still occurring - to support our sisters around the world in their struggles to survive brutal regimes, rape, poverty......
un womyn australia's theme this year is "womyn's economic empowerment"
it's a day to "celebrate the vital role women play in their families, communities and countries while recognising that significant barriers to achieving women's empowerment and gender equality continue to exist... from iwd website
it's a day to remember the past and re-evaluate the present... a day to stand up for the victims of violence, to rage at the atrocities committed against our bodies and our minds... a day to remember our non-human animal sisters cruelly and brutally treated because of their femaleness... a day to reflect on womyn's place in the world, our inter-connectedness with nature...
"...feminism and animal advocacy make natural allies given that it is the abuse of the reproductive capacity of female animals that perpetuates animal exploitation..." ruby hamad...
today is a day to embrace all things female...
I love the new look!
ReplyDeleteHappy Women's Day Proud Womon. I'm looking forward to a more women- and animal-centred society in the future.
Let's celebrate the fact that we women make the world a better place.

hi leila... thank you - happy womyn's day right back at you!
ReplyDeletei'm not sure how i feel about that graphic and the quote "if abortion is murder, then blowjobs are cannibalism..." it stops short - without the rest of the quote "and masturbation is mass genocide" it seems to me it just becomes an anti-womon accusation by fundamentalist christians...
hmm interesting take on it...definitely something to think about. I never really looked at it that way. I laughed when i saw it because I thought it was a sarcastic take on those Christian views.

ReplyDeleteThere has been a backlash against women in the US which focuses not so much on economics, but on reproductive health (which impacts economics of course). But I found this article that I thought might interest you. It made me grin!

i enjoyed the article! what a wonderful sense of equity and concern nina turner appears to have regarding 'male reproductive health'... it definitely deserves to be regulated to the hilt, just like womyn's reproductive health... perhaps male masterbation needs to be outlawed (all those 'deaths'!)? at the very least a law that all 'product' of wanking needs to be donated to sperm banks for those unable to produce their own...
